International adoption, or intercountry adoption, is a type of adoption in which an individual or couple becomes the legal and permanent parents of a child born in another country. In general, prospective adoptive parents must meet the legal adoption requirements of their country of residence and those of the country in which the child was born. The laws of different countries vary in their willingness to allow international adoptions. Some countries, such as China and Korea, have relatively well-established rules and procedures for international adoptions, while other countries expressly forbid it. Some countries, notably many African nations, have extended residency requirements for adoptive parents that in effect rule out most international adoptions. Malawi, for instance, requires residency except in special cases . From Wikipedia under the

I am currently in the proces of adopting a child from China. Recently, there has been a lot of debate regarding international adoption. A lot of people ask why I am adopting from another country when there are kids here that need to be adopted. I feel the system in the US is too hard to deal with and that the adoptive parents do not have as many rights as the birthmother. She can decide to not terminate parental rights at any time. It should be her perrogative, but I don't want to have a failed placement. That's why I've chosen international adoption. What's your opinion? My husband does not want to foster. I considered that in the beginning, but respect his decision. Not everybody is cut out to be a foster parent. You have to be… [cont.] Asked by Angela M - Sat Jan 13 01:24:49 2007 - - 15 Answers - 1 Comments A. First off I want to say good luck and that adoption of any kind is great. Also Chinesse babies are adorable! Now...I am a preschool teacher for under privlaged kids (poor, foster, adopted, and split home). I am a very strong believer in American adoption, when I am ready I am adopting from the US instead of having my own. Untill people are with the system they really don't understand exactly how many babies, toddlers, and children are in America that are in need of love and family. Unfortunatly our system doesn't screen the foster parents great and dont keep up on them great. I have seen MANY children that are in foster homes, not being taken care of well and with very mean foster parents in homes that the children should never be placed… [cont.] Answered by softball_whitney_04 - Sat Jan 13 03:27:00 2007 What are the international adoption regulations for adopting in India if youm live in the UK? You Will probably get some advice here: also, From the British High Commission "Adopted Children 9. You should note that if you are a British citizen, and you adopt a child overseas, the adoption will not of itself confer British citizenship on the child. However, it may be possible for the child to be registered at the Home Secretary s discretion. Enquiries about registration should be sent to one for the addresses listed in paragraph 17 (that paragraph tells you which address to write to, depending on where you are living)." Answered by H****** - Fri May 30 17:34:34 2008 Resouces challenging the necessity of international adoption?
Q. Could you provide links for some resouces demonstrating that the demand for adoptive children (of the infant variety) is much less than the supply? And the ethical issues this situation creates? Thank you! Sorry, the question should say "resources." Asked by B. White - Fri Sep 11 17:18:57 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments A. The flip side of your question would focus on how to help the local reality in a given country since it is impossible to adopt ourselves out of the current situation. It requires a substantial change of worldview, and a realization that were those in the first world to willingly cut their standard of living by a certain percentage, or if we were to willingly enter into a period of economic decrease, then the unequal global situation would finally change, alleviating the amount of orphans, who are more likely to be not abandoned but unable to be cared for. There is an activist stance to take other than individually adopting a child; it almost requires a much bigger heart, because it asks us to be completely selfless. orphan care: an… [cont.] Answered by unknown - Fri Sep 11 18:31:54 2009 From Yahoo Answer Search: "international adoption" From Wikiquote under the GNU Free Documentation License.
